Shears are specialized cutting machines used in rolling mills to section metal (sheet, strip or coil) through a mechanical shearing action. In the flat products rolling process (such as steel coils), shears perform critical functions at key points along the production line.
They remove non-uniform coil ends (head and tail), prevent threading issues during rolling or leveling processes and cut the metal strip to the required length or for subsequent production stages.
